Summary

At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read

My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died。。。

Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death。 Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well。 Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive。 。 。 。

Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother。 Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home。 But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret。

Acclaimed author Liane Moriarty has written a gripping, thought-provoking novel about how well it is really possible to know our spouses—and, ultimately, ourselves。

Thoroughly enjoyableReally enjoyed this book。 Could relate to the time period of the day, the close knit interlinked community and being of a similar age to the characters。 Felt true empathy of what Cecilia was faced with once she read the letter。 It really made me stop to consider what I would have done and even now after finishing the book I still do not know!

This was an interesting idea and I liked the characters and find these kinds of stories (ones with serious moral dilemmas) to be very thought-provoking。 However, it was a bit on the edgey side for me with lots of talk about sex and the f-bomb。 I had a hard time putting it down but was uncomfortable the whole time I was reading it。

2/5 because it only got good the last 75 pages。 There was way too many characters right at the beginning, the many story lines were confusing, and there were a few characters with pointless reasons to be there。I will say it’s a good read at the end because something happens that you really don’t see coming, but the beginning had me asleep。

A part of this was really good, the way the interactions between the different parties finally started to resolve toward the end。 That part was very deep and moving。 However, that was such a small portion that it's not enough to redeem the book for me。 I had actually given up about a 100 pages in because I was so frustrated with all the different characters。 I had no idea who was who and what was supposed to be happening。 I finally picked it back up again to finish。 I never really did grow to li A part of this was really good, the way the interactions between the different parties finally started to resolve toward the end。 That part was very deep and moving。 However, that was such a small portion that it's not enough to redeem the book for me。 I had actually given up about a 100 pages in because I was so frustrated with all the different characters。 I had no idea who was who and what was supposed to be happening。 I finally picked it back up again to finish。 I never really did grow to like any of the characters。 I hated the epilogue, I think it was just really trying to oversell the themes of the book。 。。。more

Essentially a poorly-executed story about a group of sociopathic cardboard cutouts bumping into each other。 The book starts out frivolous and tries to get weighty with themes of moral ambiguity but wanders into bizarre and concerning territory while maintaining a boring plot and vapid characters and ends with some lame justifications for various acts of assault。

3。5 rounded up。 Entertaining story and fun read。 I can imagine this becoming a tv show or movie。 I didn’t really connect Tess’s story with the other stories - it was entertaining, but didn’t ‘fit’ the storyline

Loved it!!! I wish every book held my attention like this one。

For me, this book was a waste of time。 The mystery was easily solved by anyone with common sense, every single damn female character was obsessed with trivialities and the male characters were mostly toxic and stupid。 If you like emotional rollercoaster rides for the sake of a few tears, you might like this。 But I didn’t care enough about most of these smug annoyingly small, petty people to shed a tear over them。 The only character I felt some sympathy for had become embittered and basically des For me, this book was a waste of time。 The mystery was easily solved by anyone with common sense, every single damn female character was obsessed with trivialities and the male characters were mostly toxic and stupid。 If you like emotional rollercoaster rides for the sake of a few tears, you might like this。 But I didn’t care enough about most of these smug annoyingly small, petty people to shed a tear over them。 The only character I felt some sympathy for had become embittered and basically destroyed her living relationships by her obsession with her dead daughter。 Yes, it happens。 No, I don’t find that process entertaining to read about。 。。。more

I enjoyed the twists but found the moralistic decisions the characters have to make even more interesting。 Seeing how the characters live with their actions as well as the consequences was thought provoking。 And engrossing, absorbing read。

This is my third Moriarty book and I've loved them all! I really enjoy the way that she alternates points of view, how you fully get to know all the characters, and how they're all tied together。 The other two I've read were like that also and LM puts it all together so well。 This is the type of book you read quickly because you don't want to put it down。 This is my third Moriarty book and I've loved them all! Liane Moriarty is always a good read in my opinion。Her books are light and fast moving, but there is always a deeper story right below the surface。With this book, that deeper story was a little closer to the top。It deals heavily with the loss a mother feels when her child is abruptly taken from her, with the betrayal a wife feels when she learns her husband has kept a life changing secret from her, and the heartbreak when the two people you trust more than anyone in the world hurt you in an unfo Liane Moriarty is always a good read in my opinion。Her books are light and fast moving, but there is always a deeper story right below the surface。With this book, that deeper story was a little closer to the top。It deals heavily with the loss a mother feels when her child is abruptly taken from her, with the betrayal a wife feels when she learns her husband has kept a life changing secret from her, and the heartbreak when the two people you trust more than anyone in the world hurt you in an unforgivable way。 。。。more

Another 3。5 here, but this one leaning closer to the 3。。。 guess that would be a 3。4 lol。 There were parts of this book I really liked。 It was something easy to pick up and get right back into。 I couldn't wait to find out the husband's secret and that kept me going for awhile。 However, once I knew his secret the tension really began to decline for me and therein may be the problem。 The author seemed to drag out the discovery of the secret but not in an interesting way。 Just an annoying woman who Another 3。5 here, but this one leaning closer to the 3。。。 guess that would be a 3。4 lol。 There were parts of this book I really liked。 It was something easy to pick up and get right back into。 I couldn't wait to find out the husband's secret and that kept me going for awhile。 However, once I knew his secret the tension really began to decline for me and therein may be the problem。 The author seemed to drag out the discovery of the secret but not in an interesting way。 Just an annoying woman who could not make up her mind。 And then once she knew the secret, she continued that character trait and didn't know what to do with the information。 I would have loved some more character complexity。 I also was not sure why some of the characters were in the book。 What was the point of Tess and her storyline? What was with the relentless fat-shaming? How did the Berlin wall really tie in with anything? Maybe the author should have taken some of her "what-ifs" at the end of the story and somehow worked them in vs just throwing a list at us - that might have added a new dimension。 。。。more

This is the fourth book from Liane Moriarty that I have read and yet again I thoroughly enjoyed it。 She has this incredible knack of drip feeding the plot, she intertwines her characters lives expertly, building to a climax event。 Ensure you read/listen to the epilogue too, the boldest epilogue I think I have ever read as she throws in a final twist。 I will definitely read more from this author。

Bridget

This is rather a light read。 I really enjoyed Big Little Lies, but I found this to be less interesting。 It’s well written and plotted it just lacked that certain something。

Hannah Bradshaw

This was a wonderful book, I enjoyed the plot twists and character development。 Moriarty is a very interesting author。

Shawn Jones

A typical Liane Moriarty book - amazing! Besides strong plots, Lianne is a master at character development。

Melissa

Had such high hopes for this book and was entirely let down。 It was easy to know what the letter would say and pretty much the outcome to follow。 The book only got good as redeemed itself in the last few chapters and then it was over
